This is an early announcement for teh next Scamp reunion. The last reunion was held in Punta Gorda, Florida this past April, 2025. The next reunion is tentatively planned to be held in Arkansas in April 2027. Harvey Sellers will be hosting this next reunion.

How about going back to Branson Mo.?
OK, I was on board on 12/4/62 when we lost the screw. I can clearly remember when it happened (I was in my bunk). The OD, using the 1MC, ordered ahead flank. After several minutes he ordered Back Full. Everything started shaking and after about 30 seconds everything went silent (no vibrations at all). Then, in about 15 -30 seconds he ordered “Engineering Officer to the Engineering Room On Ther Double” all on the 1 MC. The shaft had snapped.
Finally, I am certain that we were on the surface at that time. Why do the records on the internet say we were at 400 feet?
Also, I remenber being on radar watch for maneuvering. As we approached Golden Gate Bridge the Commanche lost power and we coasted past he and ended drifting under bridge sideways towing the Commanchee. My buddy, Ron Waller, was on line gang and he tried to cut the tow line using his TL-29 (pocket knife> The COB ordered him to stop and get an axe. As radar watch I ran a CPA for Alcatraz Island – I reported CPA 0 – (we were going to go aground on the island. OOD sent out SOS and I tracked several tugs coming fo us.
