Scamp Model Turnover Event

I was contacted yesterday by Steve Cowdin, a former member of the Scamp Association, living in the San Francisco area. He explained that several years ago he built a WWII “Gato Class” Scamp for the association. He also built a “Skipjack Class” model for friend in Vallejo.  This friend recently passed, and Steve is donating this model to the Mare Island Brewery.

Steve has invited all former Scamp sailors to attend this transfer.

Scale Model of USS Scamp (SSN 588), Built by Steve Crowdin

The Coal Shed Brewery is set inside a restored Navy coal shed prominently located on the Mare Island waterfront. Originally one of nine coal sheds, all built between 1898 and 1906; their original use was to protect and load the coal for the Navy’s steamships. Given the Navy doesn’t use coal for ships (at least, last time I checked), these structures are now being converted into other uses. The Coal Shed Brewery is the first of these buildings to be completed.

The formal transfer of the Scamp model will be Friday, November 13, at 1:00 pm. The address is:
